What breeds of dogs can do this?

Large and small breeds are all actively taking part and enjoying the health and social benefits that the sport brings. Distance, intensity, terrain and weather just need to be considered prior to ensure each run is enjoyable and safe for all.

N.B. Your furry friend needs to be fully grown (so at least 12 months of age) as growth plates in the legs especially are still forming and too much stress can lead to complications later in life. If in any doubt, please seek guidance from your vet.

How fit do I need to be?

With canicross and canitrekking you don’t have to be an experienced runner/walker to enjoy the sport. It’s suited for people and dogs of all ages and abilities.

When we hit the trails, the pace and distance will be comfortable for you and your dog. Only when you’re ready and willing can the distance/intensity increase along with your journey to build confidence and fitness.

Will my dog pull me over?

The correct kit and keeping to good paths is key. If you’ve a strong pulling dog, the special bungee line prevents any jarring. With any off-road running/trekking, there is always a bit of risk of falling over, but this can be reduced by looking ahead and anticipating any obstacles and turns ahead. Incorporating instructional commands also helps you to manage your balance and speed.

I have more than one dog?

This can be perfectly manageable so you can embrace the challenge of 2 - depending on their size! It is advised to train one up first!

How do I try this and see if we both like it?
